The word portolan comes from the Italian portolano, meaning "related to ports or harbors".
You will get a detailed Portolan Chart showing Mediterranean in 1562 on canvas. The portolan chart originated as a navigation aid, allowing sailors to traverse the Mediterranean Sea and conduct trade between far-flung ports. The oldest known portolan chart, the Carte Pisane, is housed in the Bibliothèque nationale de France in Paris and dates back to the thirteenth century.
